Department of Human Anatomy

Comprehensive study of the human body through dissection, histology, embryology, and neuroanatomy — the foundation of all medical science.

About the Anatomy Department

Located on the ground floor of the college building, the Department of Human Anatomy at MPKB Medical College provides a comprehensive and modern approach to anatomical sciences. Anatomy is the first subject taught to all medical students, forming the structural foundation for all clinical learning.

The department emphasises systemic anatomy and problem-based learning, integrating clinical subjects using CT, MRI, and modern teaching methods. Teaching incorporates interactive lectures, small group discussions, and clinical case demonstrations.

Departmental Vision

"To provide comprehensive fundamental knowledge of human anatomy to undergraduate students — enabling them to understand the normal structure and function of the human body, recognise deviations from normal, and effectively diagnose and treat patients."

Infrastructure & Facilities

Dissection Hall
20 dissection tables accommodating 200 students simultaneously. Individual drainage per table, well-ventilated, illuminated. Human skeleton and dissected specimens displayed throughout.
Histology Laboratory
Capacity for 90 students. Each station equipped with individual microscope and lighting. Demonstration microscope with projection screen. Decorated with enlarged histology slide photographs.
Embalming Room
Equipped with embalming machine, surgical instruments, and deep freezers for cadaveric preservation and management.
Anatomy Museum
180+ specimens of organs organised by system: limbs, head & neck, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, neuroanatomy, embryology. Models for embryology and gross anatomy available for study.
Demonstration Rooms
Two demonstration rooms, each accommodating 100 students, equipped with modern audio-visual aids, projectors, and digital learning tools.
Departmental Library
Stocked with standard anatomy and histology textbooks including Gray's Anatomy, BD Chaurasia, Grays Atlas, and current clinical anatomy resources.
